Faltien's 'Untitled' is a site-specific installation created specially for 'I Saw Three Ships'. It engages in the transfer of form and motion between analogue object and digital display. Starting with footage of a fare ground ride at a christmas market, the work explores the concept of the joyful season and the expectations that come with it.
The installation is accompanied by an edition of 10 DVDs of the the 8mm projection (£10) and an edition of 25 film still prints (£18). All signed and dated by the artist. Please contact WW for more information.
I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night (19/09/08 - 06/11/08)
Reisen is a group of large color photographs which examine the landscapes surrounding Germany's 14 nuclear power stations. They are a result of two trips through Germany in Spring 2003 and 2004, traveling to the sites of all nuclear power stations active at the time.
Nuclear-created electricity was one of the cornerstones of the utopia of the 1940s up to the late 1960s along with Le Corbusier's concepts of a new town or super sonic air travel. The question of nuclear power became a specific topic in the 1998 German general election and contributed to a change of government. After prolonged negotiations the Stations will be taken off the electrical grid one by one within the next 30-odd years.
In the light of the ongoing debate of the role of nuclear energy in today's society, Reisen considers the
relationship between the idea of the Sublime and the utopian dream of the atomic age and asks whether as Germany strives to leave the nuclear era behind, a once futuristic ideal has itself become archaic.
WW is showing 'Unterweser, 1978', from the Reisen Series. The series is also available as a book of 14 bound colour picture postcards (£10), please contact WW for more information.
