Monooka graduated from the University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest where she studied acting, puppeteering, music and contemporary dance. She came to London in 2007 to perform at the Romanian Cultural Institute and decided to stay for a while and find artists and musicians to work with. She has performed at Cafe Royal, Vibe Bar Brick Lane, Proud Galleries Camden, Battersea Barge. In September 2007, ENG group found her on myspace and since then a wonderful collaboration began. YESYES5956 is their first project combining experimental electronic concrete sounds and surreal voice improvisations. The name of the performance YESYES5956, is a combination of the translation of DADA (YESYES in Romanian) and the distance between London and Tokyo (5956 miles).
Monooka also collaborates on YESYES5956 with Sebastian Heroiu, an artist and filmmaker who has edited several short films on 35mm and video and assist-edited "1.0" - a feature film by by J. Renfroe and M. Thorsson. As an advertising man, he's done integrated campaigns for LG, PizzaHut, Mothercare, Cif, Domestos, Knorr and more. His motion graphics bring cool to the NHS National Innovation Centre website. His latest illustrations enliven the London Jewish Quarterly. Sebastian collaborated with his partner Monooka on "Platformer's delight": a video installation at Shunt Club - a hopscotch drawn in the hall and some childhood reminding visuals transformed adults in the audience into playful kids. Sebastian and Monooka have worked together on several other projects: an award winning animation, some experimental movies and a live performance at ICR in Belgrave Square.
